Aoshima is a small island of 20 inhabitants belonging to the prefecture of Miyazaki in Japan. A while ago some cats were introduced with the intention of catching mice but these have been playing to form a broad population. Just there are 10 cats neutered and having no predators, they now have more than 120 stray cats, representing an average of 6 cats per capita. The island has no shops and hotels and cats are getting food in the garbage or locals. All this forms a curious landscape and is difficult to look in any direction without seeing a cat. |
